Stay Safe in the Summer Heat
Jun 26th 2023
Summer is here and things are heating up! Remember to stay safe while taking advantage of seasonal activities in the hotter temperatures. It’s important to stay hydrated, wear proper clothing, limit strenuous activities, and be mindful of sun protection to ensure an enjoyable and safe summer.
Sun protection is imperative to help avoid sunburn, keep your body temperature regulated, and overall skin health. Wear sunscreen and light-colored loose-fitting clothing to reflect the sun and keep you cooler. Seek shade often especially during the hottest part of the day and wear a hat or use an umbrella. If sunburn occurs, use our Cool Menthol CBD Cream to soothe skin while cooling it down. Our Relief Roller is another good option to help soothe while cooling and it’s great for bug bites. Sun exposure can also dehydrate skin, making it dull, dry, and prone to wrinkles. Try our CBD Face Serum to hydrate, tighten and brighten while reducing redness and irritation or CBD Body Butter for full body moisturization and long-lasting hydration.
Stay hydrated! Hydration is important during the summer due to increased heat and perspiration levels which can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of water throughout the day even if you do not feel thirsty. Cold water and other cold treats like ice cream, popsicles, or frozen yogurt are not only tasty but also help lower your body temperature. Try to avoid caffeinated drinks, alcohol and salty foods that can make dehydration worse. Eat hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables and consider sports drinks to replenish lost electrolytes. Remember to hydrate before, during and after exercise or outdoor activities.
Plan activities to stay cool while having fun. Strategically schedule outdoor activities during the coolest part of the day like early morning or evening. Visit bodies of water such as lakes, rivers or beaches which provide natural breezes and lower temperatures while you enjoy swimming, boating or simply relaxing by the water. Organize a pool party or water games like balloon fights, sprinkler runs and slip-and-slides for refreshing cooling fun. You can also plan to stay indoors and enjoy air conditioning at the mall, movie theater, museums, or in your own home while binge watching your favorite TV shows. Use your imagination to dream up other fun activities to stay cool.
Don’t forget pets get hot too. Provide plenty of water so your pet can stay hydrated and remember to bring water for them while on walks or traveling. Watch out for hot pavement that can burn their feet and plan walks in shady parks early in the morning or evening when it is cooler. Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle! Temperatures inside a parked car can rise rapidly and become life threatening within minutes, even with the windows cracked. Keep your fur babies safe and cool so they can enjoy the summer with you.
Staying safe in the summer heat is essential for your well-being and enjoyment of the season. Protecting yourself from the sun, staying hydrated, planning cool activities, and taking breaks in air-conditioned spaces can provide relief and prevent overheating. Make the most of your summer while keeping cool, comfortable, and safe!
